Creating a Soundscape

Creating a Soundscape

The original Grimm fairytale, The Mouse, the Bird, and the Sausage, was adapted for a more age-appropriate audience. The sound file is intended to be used in English classes fo ages 10-14. The purpose is to discuss meaning and storytelling through the use of character development. The ending to the story was adjusted, and character voices were stylized to engage the audience of today.

The project was edited in GarageBand and recorded with a Blue Snowball microphone. An environmental soundscape was created using music, sound effects, and character voices panned left or right of center to create dimension.

Accomplishments

The editing of the audio and the environmental soundscape created worked well to transform the original story into an engaging audio narrative for the intended audience. The character development was created by a single person who acted as the talent. Strategically practicing and choosing the correct back story for each character gave the characters the dimension needed to help tell the story in an engaging way.
